Ghanaian Union in Thailand Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Outgoing Consular Representative Her Excellency, Mrs. Florence Buerki Akonor for Her Dedicated Service

Bangkok, Thailand — The Ghanaian Union in Thailand (G-Union) has expressed its profound appreciation to Her Excellency Mrs. Florence Buerki Akonor, recognizing her support, dedication and contributions to the welfare of the Ghanaian community in Thailand as she concludes her consular service. In a special appreciation message themed “Together, We Make a Difference,” the Union celebrated her kindness, encouragement and commitment to fostering unity among Ghanaians living abroad.

The tribute highlights the important role consular representatives play in strengthening relationships between diplomatic institutions and diaspora communities. As the community marks this transition, G-Union has emphasized the importance of sustaining the spirit of cooperation, accessibility and mutual support that has characterized its relationship with the outgoing representative.

The recognition underscores the wider significance of Ghanaian consular services, diaspora engagement and community welfare in Thailand, particularly for Ghanaian teachers, professionals, students and families navigating life outside their home country. Consular institutions provide an essential connection between citizens abroad and their home governments, including assistance with documentation, information and appropriate support during emergencies.

Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs identifies the protection of Ghanaian citizens abroad and the provision of consular services among its responsibilities. Within this broader diplomatic framework, the Union's appreciation of Mrs. Akonor reflects the value of community-focused representation and constructive engagement between citizens and consular officials.

The tribute also comes amid renewed attention to the protection and welfare of Ghanaians overseas. In September 2026, Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced plans for a Ghanaian Diaspora Consular Fund to support citizens facing emergencies abroad, underscoring the government's broader commitment to diaspora protection.

As Mrs. Akonor concludes her service, the Ghanaian Union in Thailand extends its heartfelt gratitude for the encouragement, kindness and solidarity celebrated in its tribute. Her Excellency Mrs. Florence Buerki Akonor leaves with the appreciation and best wishes of a community that values her support. The Union reaffirms its commitment to unity, community development and continued cooperation with Ghana's diplomatic and consular representatives, ensuring that Ghanaians in Thailand remain connected, supported and proud of their shared heritage.
